Food For Thought
Moving from the realm of single issues to that of overall, grand strategy for liberals, this article by Bill Bradley definitely gives us something to chew on. I think his portrayal of the GOP as a solidly unified machine, or pyramid, is a bit of an over-exaggeration: just think about what "unity" will mean in the 2008 GOP primaries if McCain and/or Giuliani take on an Establishment candidate like Bill Frist. Nonetheless, his ideas are worth a read.

I think that republicans had to build their structure and spend a lot of money and hire Ann Coulter because they couldn't tell the American people what they stand for or what their agenda is.
Republicans have to resort to talking about Jesus in order to fool people and get their support.
Why should democrats behave like they do when what we stand for is an agenda that is on behalf of the people?
The problem with the Democratic Party right now is that television, the most powerful and influencial medium is owned and run by republicans. How can we counter the power of the republican propaganda machine when they own tv?
Also we have the problem that republicans such as Lieberman, Clinton, Kerry and others identify themselves as Democrats and then move our party to the right.
I did not vote in the last Presidential election. Not because I didn't care. I cared a lot. I just didn't have anyone to vote for. Democratic elites fixed the nominating process so that a candidate who represented the status quo would get the nomination.
Democrats are chasing democrats out of our party. How can the writer of this blog and Bill Bradley claim that Bush won the last election. He didn't. He stole that one just as he stole the White House from Al Gore. Do you think republicans would behave as Democrats are if their candidates had been legally elected and had the office stolen from them? Why do Democrats allow Diebold voting machines? Democrats lay down and allow themselves to be run over and do nothing. Nobody respects a wimp.
Democratic leaders and elected officials support Bush and the neo-cons while rank and file Democrats most certainly do not. The problem with the Democratic Party is from within and its our leadership.
If Democrats in Congress support our holocaust in Iraq then they should understand that rank and file Democrats demand to know why and we don't take WMD or giving Iraqis Democracy as good enough explainations for our policies. If Democrats support the neo-cons then give us a reason because we don't see it and we are not mindless dittoheads like those on the right.
The nomination process should be more democratic and all of us should have a say rather then having a financial elite that we don't even like foisted off on us.
You are mistaken if you think a fight between McCain and Frist will divide the Republican Party. Members of that party don't vote based upon ideas or policies. They vote republican regardless of what that party stands for because they have vested everything in the party that claims Jesus and hates queers, welfare minorities and will give everybody a gun. Anything that seemingly contradicts their dogma is simply ignored. Such as Mary Cheney being a lesbian and Dick Cheney not demanding that she "choose" the right values. Or Bush telling lies about war immediately after Bill Clinton was impeached for lying.
What we have to remember is that Democrats WON the last two presidential elections. We should also remember that attacking Christians does not work because most of us Democrats who are religious are Christian. If you would not attack a Jew then you shouldn't attack Christians. I know about this issue from personal experience.
